How to Decide Against Doing it Yourself or Hiring a Professional:
Why go the extra mile and budget money extra for having my car professionally detailed? I always consider a few things before choosing to pay for something that I could potentially do for myself.
At times like this, these are the questions that run through my mind: Why should I give my car to a professional for detailing? Why budget money for detailing when I can do it myself and save money?
Today I’m going to outline the things that I considered before making my decision. Hopefully, it will help you make a decision of your own.
What is Car detailing all about?
Please don’t confuse a car wash with having your car detailed by a professional. While a regular car wash is an automated or manual system you pass a car through in order to get it’s exterior cleaned up (sometimes the interior may be included), a professional car detailing is an exhaustive cleaning of the exterior and interior with the intent of restoring the car to a “good as new” condition.
A detailing is labor-intensive and may take a significant amount of time; when you combine these two factors you can guess that the cost may be substantial.
Car Detailing: Do-It-Yourself or Go Pro?
Time:
Your time is valuable, so while you may think you are saving money by detailing your own car, if you do the calculations, you may realize that you are actually spending more money by doing it yourself.
When you consider the amount of stress and time it will require, you may find that leaving the task for professionals will save you time that you can use for other valuable things.
If you want to detail your own car, you have to take time to shop for the tools and products you will need to do it. Next, you get down to the proper work. You have to steam clean your car jambs and sills, clean underneath your floor mats, dust the interior, clean the air vents and cup holders, etc.
Then you obviously want your seats to be thoroughly clean and the cracks worked on. And there is so much more that goes into detailing a car. Now you are seeing that car detailing can be complex and time-consuming, but that’s because you aren’t a professional.
A professional will make it look quick and easy, which may make the price seem reasonable.
Money:
In the same way, time that saving time is important, another point to consider is your pocketbook. If you choose to go with a professional car detailing it will set you back a bit.
That shouldn’t bother you because the overall gain of have high-quality maintenance performed on your car will benefit you in the long run. For example, the cleaner and better looking a vehicle is, the higher its value.
Hence, when you have your vehicle detailed on a regular basis, it increases the likelihood that your vehicle will retain a higher value making it easier to sell.
Point blank: professional car detailing may look costly now, but it can save you money in the long run.
Quality:
At some point, you must ask yourself if you can detail your car as well as a professional can? In most cases, the answer is no. This is because a professional is a fully trained expert.
Also, professionals have tons of experience from doing previous jobs, meaning that while the unusual spots (underneath the car bumper, glass chip repair, headlight polishing) in the exterior may not be seen or neglected by you, a professional should always go the extra mile to clean it up properly. That is what they get paid to do.
Damages:
In a bid to clean up your car by yourself, there is a chance that you could inadvertently damage it.
Either due to lack of proper tools or lack of patience, the fact that you are not trained in detailing professionally can result in damage to your vehicles. A professional detailer knows the ins and outs of carrying out the detailing job. He is aware of the fragile components of the interior and exterior.
Ultimately, the final decision rests with you. Only you can weigh your skills against those of a professional and decide which is the right decision for your car.
