Nowadays, the terms hot water extraction and steam cleaning are used interchangeably.
However, the truth is that these both are different upholstery and carpet cleaning processes.
Both methods use different water temperatures and even similar cleaning procedures based on the process.
Just before you have your rugs or carpets cleaned professionally, it is best to know the difference between hot water extraction cleaning and dry carpet cleaning procedures.
What Is Dry Carpet Cleaning?
In this method, a special kind of carpet cleaning powder containing crushed spongy polymer material is added to the detergent. This is then applied to the carpet.
After that, it is carefully rubbed using a particular machine, the so-called apparatus for rubbing the powder using two counter-rotating brushes into the carpet’s base.
Here one brush would lift the pile from the carpet, and the other one will rub the powder. The surface treatment will take around 10 to 30 minutes.
During this time, the powder would absorb the dirt. The time of the absorption would be based on the degree of humidity present in the room.
Later on, these powders are collected by the upright vacuum cleaner. In this method, it is mandatory to use a good vacuum cleaner.
The most significant advantage of dry carpet cleaning is the presence of a low moisture indicator.
As per carpet cleaning experts, dry carpet cleaning methods would remove the shrinkage or deformation of the product.
Also, it will remove the discoloration and the appearance of the soap stains.
What Is Hot Water Extraction?
Right from ancient times, steam has been known for its cleaning properties. Steam is considered to be an effective, safe detergent, and environmentally friendly option.
It is a universal solvent prepared by nature. Most importantly, it is superior in terms of properties compared to other chemicals.
Nowadays, the safety of our loved ones is more critical for us. The daily cleaning can be complicated in overcoming the inhabitation of microorganisms, and they can even begin infecting the rooms of our home.
Pathogens and dust mites will easily find their place in the upholstery of the furniture. Sometimes you might find them in your mattress and carpets.
Of course, we can wash the furniture outside, wash and clean the carpet, as well as wash the mattress.
Keep in mind that it is impossible to destroy the microorganisms penetrating them without professional assistance.
Here steam comes to the rescue. It will penetrate the interior of the furniture, mattress, carpet and remove all kinds of living things contained within.
Major Differences Between Dry Carpet Cleaning And Hot Water Extraction
The major difference between hot water extraction and steam cleaning is the temperature.
Both have different sets of temperatures used in their respective cleaning procedures.
In steam cleaning actual steam is used. Also, in this method water has to be heated to a high temperature so that the liquid gets converted into gas.
It wouldn’t be quite as effective to apply the stream straight to the carpets, as there is no rinsing of the fibers.
This might kill germs and lower the chances to get allergens. Still, it is not the best method for removing stains and soil from dirty carpets.
In hot water extraction, one needs hot water for cleaning effectively and deeply. But it won’t be hot enough for converting into steam.
Of course, there might be some visible steam in the hot water extraction cleaning, however, it is simply hot water and not pure steam.
Difference In Dry Carpet Cleaning And Hot Water Extraction Method In Application
Many carpet manufacturers advise cleaning their products using hot water extraction for ensuring proper stain removal. When you are talking about cleaning natural fiber carpets and rugs, one needs a lower temperature.
This is for avoiding all kinds of shrinkage and other damages. With hot water extraction, one can easily remove stains but in steam cleaning, you can cause stains to set in permanently.
It’s important to hire a professional carpet cleaning company in order to avoid these mistakes.
Hot Water Extraction Is The Perfect Choice
Making the choice between dry carpet cleaning and hot water extraction, can be confusing.
Frankly, hot water extraction is the better choice for cleaning and this is the most common method used by professional carpet cleaners and manufacturers.
Steam cleaning is also a great method, but it won’t rinse the fibers.
